Note: Cybernova was first seen in my previous TF fanfic, Into the Unknown, also on this board. A quick summary: halfway through the four million years that the Earth Transformers were inactive, a mass exodus of Autobots from Cybertron took place; they built a settlement on the planetoid Cybernova.

CHAPTER ONE
In the depths of outer space, the rocket form of Omega Supreme glided sluggishly towards its destination.
Inside, Cosmos and Moonracer were seated in the control center, piloting the rocket. Cosmos tapped a few keys, opening communications with Earth.
"Cosmos to Autobot City." No answer.
"Hello? Is there anybody out there?"
The speakers began to crackle and the monitor registered a blurry picture. Cosmos and Moonracer could barely make out Arcee's face and voice.
"This is Arcee," she said in pinched tones, "we are under Decepticon attack, we are unable to send help."
"Decepticon attack?" gasped Cosmos.
"I can't believe this is happening!" exclaimed Moonracer. Catching her breath, she delivered the intended message. "Arcee, we're only calling to report that we should be arriving at Cybernova within the hour. May the Matrix watch over you all."
"I'll pass that along." replied Arcee quickly. "Good luck with your mission. Arcee out."
"Good luck with yours." said Cosmos forlornly.
"I'll never complain about the cabin fever in here again." chuckled Moonracer half-heartedly, trying in vain to find humor in the situation.
She heard a familiar brash voice behind her. "They can take care of themselves just fine, don't you worry your pretty head." Moonracer felt his comforting hand on her shoulder. "Have no fear, Powerglide's here to take over the co-piloting and give you a chance to relax."
Moonracer unbuckled her belt and stood up. She and Powerglide hugged. "Thanks." she whispered.
"See you in my quarters after someone takes my place at the controls?" asked Powerglide.
"You know it." smiled Moonracer. She turned and headed to the refueling station.
As she walked through the endless corridor, she caught sight of many of the Autobots aboard, desperately fighting the boredom of a long voyage and the tension from the danger ahead. Inferno and Warpath were absorbed in video games. Tracks stood in front of a mirror, checking his visibly flaking paint job. Skids was still obsessing over a strange object he had found the last time he had gone exploring...it wasn't that long ago, but with the events of recent months, it seemed like an eternity.
At the refueling station, Moonracer was glad to find Chromia. Since hearing the terrible news from Earth, she had been hoping to talk to her.
"Chromia! Thank the Matrix you're here." Moonracer began stammering. "It...it's terrible...Autobot City...Decepticons...attack."
"Calm down," said Chromia sharply. "Start again from the beginning."
Moonracer took a deep breath. "Cosmos and I contacted Autobot City, Arcee answered..."
"Huh," sneered Chromia, "no wonder you're upset. I can't stand Arcee, she got herself that plush Autobot City duty with her little damsel act." Chromia began imitating Arcee's prissy voice. " 'Ooh, you big strong men, what would I do without you?' "
"Chromia!" snapped Moonracer. "Autobot City is under Decepticon attack."
Chromia was shocked at first, then embarassed by what she had said. "That's the one thing I hoped I would never hear. I feel so awful now. By Alpha Trion, I hope they survive."
"Maybe they can get reinforcements from one of the Moon Bases." said Moonracer glumly.
"Optimus will jump right to it, I'm sure of that." replied Chromia. "Even though he keeps it all inside, I can tell he's been fighting mad since...what happened last year."
What happened last year. It all played like a waking nightmare inside the minds of both Moonracer and Chromia. They could still see the burning, crumbling remains of the Autobot base on Cybertron. They could still see their fellow Autobots joining them in a desperate evacuation, rushing toward the spacecraft as the entire fleet of Decepticon Seekers and Triple Changers closed in on them. And, worst of all, they could still see Elita-One stopping and drawing her weapon. "Keep running!" she ordered. "I'll hold them off the best I can." Moonracer had paused, her mouth open but no words coming out. "GO!" yelled Elita, "save yourself!" Elita then turned around and opened fire on the Decepticons. As Moonracer headed to the escape ship, she looked over her shoulder to see Elita dodging the Decepticon fire with incredible agility, returning the fire and taking down both Thrust and Skywarp with one shot each.
But as she boarded the ship, Moonracer took one last look and saw Elita falling from the combination of Starscream's null-ray and Blitzwing's explosive shells. As the ship's door closed, Moonracer's last view of Cybertron was Elita-One lying on the ground. The ship took off with heat-seeking missiles on its tail, which were blown up by the tailgunners, and the ship headed for the temporary safety of Autobot Moon Base One. In a matter of seconds, the female Autobots had lost a leader, a mentor, a mother figure, and a friend. Things would never be the same.
Moonracer and Chromia then flashed to the moment Optimus Prime received the news of Elita-One's self-sacrifice. It was the first time they had ever seen Prime's head slump and his shoulders sag. Ever since then, it seemed to the two of them, and to other Autobots they spoke to privately, that although Prime never said it, he now seemed to feel there was nothing left to fight for, nothing left to live for. How would that affect the outcome when he joined the battle on Earth, they wondered?
Their grim thoughts were interrupted by Omega Supreme's voice, booming from his rocket form's P.A. system. "CYBERNOVA NEAR. LANDING IMMINENT."
Moonracer and Chromia made sure their weapons were locked and loaded, and ran to join the other Autobots. Firestar quickly came up behind them, and passed them. "Funtime!" she said, half sarcastic and half hungry for a fight. No wonder her and Inferno are still an item, thought Moonracer.
The three female Autobots were the only ones present who had never called Cybernova home. The dozen male Autobots on board had all travelled to Earth twenty years earlier to help that planet's Autobots with their battles. Of the original force, only Blaster and Perceptor had remained on Earth for the long run; they were stationed at Autobot City; hopefully they'd survive.
And hopefully everybody now headed to Cybernova would survive. Weeks ago, the rebuilt Autobot settlement on that distant planetoid was placed under siege by the Combaticons and Stunticons. The Protectobots and Aerialbots had been sent in, but they had all been defeated and captured. If one giant Autobot, Omega Supreme, and fifteen normal-sized ones were all that was available to take on two Decepticon merge-teams, it was hard to feel there was any possibility of victory.
Omega Supreme's built-in alarm began blaring. "ENEMY APPROACHING." he announced. His monitor showed Vortex and Blast Off closing in fast on them.
"This is it," roared Inferno, "our last stand. Let's give 'em a fight they'll never expect. Autobots, strap on your jet packs and attack!"
